Bereavement and Our Mental Health

A definition of mental health, is someone’s state of emotional well-being. It’s the subjective feeling of contentment and life satisfaction despite the problems, challenges, and upheavals of life.

 

Anxiety: It is a state of worry or fear that is characterised by a state of inner turmoil. A state of apprehension, uncertainty, and fear resulting from anticipation of a realistic or imagined threatening event or situation. A mental and physical reaction to perceived threats. It protects us from danger and focus our attention on problems.

Depression: in psychology is defined as a mood or emotional state that is marked by negative internal thinking of feelings of low self-worth or guilt and a reduced ability to enjoy life. A person who is depressed usually experiences several of the following symptoms: feelings of sadness, hopelessness, of emptiness and despair, or pessimism; lower self-esteem and heightened self-depreciation; disconnection from others, a decrease or loss of ability to take pleasure in ordinary activities; reduced energy and vitality; slowness of thought or action; loss of appetite; and disturbed sleep or insomnia. They may also have thoughts of suicide or a preoccupation with dying.
